Backing ‘team player’ Liz Cobbs for School Committee

It is my pleasure to endorse Liz Cobbs as a candidate for the Concord School Committee. I have worked closely with Liz on several projects and believe she has a skill set that will be of great value to our school committee. When researching an issue, she is very thorough and comfortable doing deep dives into any necessary data. She is then able to present an analysis that is easily understood. Liz is a strong team player as she listens carefully to varying sides of an issue and can build consensus while still keeping sight of what is important. She is a highly principled individual and approaches her work with thoroughness and integrity.

After living overseas, Liz and her family decided to permanently settle in Concord. They were drawn to Concord for our excellent schools and opportunities for civic involvement in our town. Liz was appointed to the Personnel Board because of her professional and collaborative skills. She has been an active participant in various town committee meetings and her extensive volunteer work underscore her commitment to service and civic involvement. Though Concord may be a small town in New England, the students who graduate from our schools will be facing a broader global community. Liz brings a fresh perspective and skill set influenced by living and working with a multitude of people in other cultures; a plus for our School Committee.

Liz Cobbs would be ‘outstanding’ addition to School Committee  Bill Mrachek, Rollingwood Lane    (from the Concord Bridge)

I am writing to endorse the candidacy of Elizabeth (Liz) Cobbs to the Concord School Committee. As a co-chair of the Concord Personnel Board, along with Liz as the other co-chair, I have been able to observe her many outstanding qualities that would be integral to furthering the goals of the School Committee and supporting the interests of the town, its citizens, the students, teachers, and other interested parties.

In her role with the Personnel Board, Liz has demonstrated an ability to move the board forward in new directions. She is a major contributor, along with her colleagues, in advancing a new Personnel Bylaw for approval at the 2024 Town Meeting.

Liz is capable of parsing an issue and being an effective communicator with all parties. She knows how to listen; how to ask clarifying questions; and how to present her position to her audience.

It has been a real pleasure serving with Liz on the Personnel Board, and I know, if elected, she would make an outstanding contribution to the School Committee.

An endorsement for Liz Cobbs, School Committee

In Liz Cobbs we have a unique opportunity to elect a highly qualified individual to our School Committee whose background and experience could not be more suited to such a role. I got to know Liz well when we served as co-chairs of an effort by the League of Women Voters of Concord-Carlisle to hold a series of forums on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Liz graduated from Bates College and earned a PhD in Sociology from the University of Chicago. She and her husband spent six years in Japan, where Liz ran the Health Policy Office for Merck and her husband worked as a diplomat with the U.S. State Department.

Liz moved to Concord four years ago. She and her husband were attracted to Concord because of the excellent schools, which have met the needs of her two children who attend CCHS and Alcott. In addition, Liz recognized that our town is fortunate to have active and committed citizens who make Concord the incredible place that it is.

It did not take Liz long to get involved herself. She currently serves as co-chair of the Personnel Board. And she has volunteered at her children’s schools and has worked with METCO students, spending countless hours tutoring students and helping with their college applications.

Liz’s ability to respectfully foster collaboration and consensus building will make her an outstanding member of the School Committee.
